Stingray Geophysical, a spin-out from QinetiQ, has been established to develop a commercial fibre optic seismic monitoring system which can be deployed permanently on the seabed to provide high quality data on hydrocarbon reservoirs.
By placing the technology permanently on the seabed, the oil companies can continuously monitor how the oil moves in the reservoir during production. In this way, drilling can be more precise, and it will be possible to extract more oil from the fields.
ECM invested in the company in 2006.
Co-investors include Energy Ventures and Chevron Texas Ventures.
